Clothes contribute to landfills in a number of ways. First, many clothes are made from synthetic materials, such as polyester and nylon, which are not biodegradable. These materials can take hundreds of years to decompose in a landfill, releasing methane gas, a greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. Second, even clothes made from natural fibers, such as cotton and wool, can contribute to landfills if they are not disposed of properly. These materials can release harmful chemicals into the environment when they are burned or buried.
Reusing clothes can help to reduce the impact of textile waste on the environment. When clothes are reused, they do not end up in landfills, and the resources that went into making them are not wasted. There are many ways to reuse clothes, such as donating them to charity, selling them online, or upcycling them into new items.
To do our part, Rethreaded donates 10% of our net profits to charities protecting the environment. We are proud to help reduce the build up in landfills worldwide.
